The first scheduled steamer run from Revelstoke commenced in 1888 with the "Despatch", shown here at Sproat's Landing. The twin-hulled vessel was rather slow and gathering firewood to keep her going was expected from the passengers. The photo was taken by George Mercer Dawson when he visited the area on July 9, 1889. Two buildings can be seen faintly on the Brilliant bench to the left of the stack. |
